We are happy that you have chosen our product and you found your way to this quick start.

This quick start describes how to setup your DF PROFINET IO board (Controller and Device) with the LabVIEW Driver and run the example code.

Hardware:

  • DF PROFINET IO (PCI/CPCI/PCIe)

Software package:

  • LabVIEW™ PROFINET VISA driver for Windows 7 / Windows 10 and LabVIEW™ RT

  • Configurator 3 for PROFINET diagnosis and configuration

  • Network Configurator for diagnosis and configuration

The PROFINET Controller and Device are located as shown:

The STATUS LED bar shows red after booting and after a couple of seconds green for “standby - DF PROFINET IO board is ready to use” on the Controller port.

  • Make sure you installed the National Instruments NI VISA driver package

  • The LabVIEW PROFINET VISA driver does support Windows 7 / 10 - 64/32 Bit + LabVIEW 2014 32 Bit and higher

 Setting up the System

Action

Shut down your system and mount the board in your PC

boot your PC

Install the LabVIEW PROFINET VISA driver package

  1. the file is located on a DVD or USB stick in the boards shipping box

  2. Chose the setup bit version regarding your Windows OS

Setting up your first PROFINET network by using the boards controller and device

Additional information

Connect the two Ethernet ports (PROFINET - controller and device) on the board with a Ethernet cable directly

Configure the board as shown in the video:

Close the Configurator 3 (it is only for configuration and diagnosis)

Run the LabVIEW GettingStarted example code as shown in the video

The boards controller and device are exchanging data via PROFINET

Troubleshooting

find below some typical things you can check and do if you got any issue during setting up the DF PROFINET IO board.

Keep your Windows and LabVIEW updated

Make sure the NI VISA driver package is installed

Visible in NI MAX

Check if the board is recognized on your PC in the device manager

Make sure to allow remote control for your NI VISA driver by adding “*” as permission

Additional information

You can not run Configurator 3 and DF PROFINET IO LabVIEW VIs at the same time.

  1. Close the Configurator 3 for using the controller or device.

  2. It is for configuration and diagnosis

be aware to use the correct Ethernet port for the controller or the device

APDU status 0x21 is shown on your controller:

  1. you have either the device not running or the cable disconnected

  2. or the wrong PROFINET device name used in your configuration. See the screenshot for changing the devicename. (for bigger view, right click and open the image)

    1. start the Getting Started Device example.

    2. close the VI without pressing the stop button IN THE VI. Close LabVIEW

    3. Start the Configurator 3 and follow the screenshots
